Websites began as the shopfront of the modern business, but they now are so much more.

Not only can you display your products and services to the potential customer - you and your customers can use your site as a bulletin board for new developments, a newsletter, photo gallery, shop and forum.

Whether you require a simple website giving your customers an outline of your services, or you need more complex features such as online shopping, newsfeeds, multimedia elements and interactive content, we can help.

Your website can be designed from scratch or based on your existing promotional literature, and for smaller companies and freelancers we also offer a lower-cost solution using the fabulous Joomla! open source CMS system so that you can add and update your own content.

We have access to great designers and copyrighters who can help your site stand out amongst the crowd and really do the business for you.

Of course the best website possible is still of no use to you unless people visit it, so we can also advise you on how to bring your website to the attention of the world.

If you'd like a free, no-obligation chat about a new website or a website re-vamp, do please contact us.

The CMS based website

Increasingly we are getting enquiries from people who want full control over their own website content, but our technical back-up.  Our usual recommendation is that they have a CMS (Content Management System), so that they can add articles, control which ones appear in which order etc.  This management work can be done through a browser and requires no specialist knowledge or software.

Typically we use the Joomla! open source CMS, and provide a custom template so that the website retains it's individuality.  We also provide a user manual which explains step-by-step how to create and edit articles, how to add new pages, upload photos, create links to other websites etc.

We are also always on hand to help when needed.

The value of top class photography

Do you feel that your website looks less attractive than you planned - whilst still having the design you wanted?

Quite often we find that a huge improvement can be made just by using better photographic images - this is particularly noticeable with staff headshots.

Ask us to take a look, and we'll let you know whether this is the problem - Chris can come and take professional photos for you, and we can upload them to your site same day.  If you prefer, for staff photos, you can come to the studio - that way you can approve the images before paying for the session.

DIY SEO!

Some musings about how to get your website up the search engines:

  • Firstly, content - you need lots of words, relevant words that is, not too frequently repeated, and the more frequently you add good content to the site the better.
  • Secondly, it does seem that the content that is in h1 and h2 tags - i.e. the headings - is important in deciding how far up the search engines you get.
  • Links are really important - if you can get people to link to you from other busy sites, that will boost yours - one-way links are best of course, but most people will want you to reciprocate and those links are still worth having.
  • Promote your site yourself by adding a signature with a link in it to your posts on relevant bulletin boards
  • Some of the more technical things - keywords, search-engine friendly urls etc - seem not to be used as criteria by the search engines so much now, but they can't hurt
  • Never go for "tricks" like putting a lot of popular search terms that are not really relevant to your site in white on a white background - the search engine people really don't like this, and anyway what's the point in getting a lot of traffic from people who weren't really looking for your product?
